There is something special about the doors of France. Located in the Provence region of southern France, Arles is a city situated along the Rhône River on the banks of the river. As a result of the influence of the city on the paintings of Van Gogh, the contemporary art displayed at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh has also been influenced by the city. Arles was once the provincial capital of ancient Rome, and today the city is known for many remains from that era, such as the Arles Amphitheater (le Arènes d'Arles), a theatre that hosts plays, concerts and bullfights today.
