Eads Bridge Framing the Mississippi

Description

The historic Eads Bridge stretches gracefully across the Mississippi River, its ironwork arch perfectly framing the Casino Queen skyline on the Illinois side. Shot from the St. Louis riverfront, this photograph highlights the enduring architecture of one of America’s great engineering landmarks — the first steel bridge built across the Mississippi and a defining icon of St. Louis. The soft winter light adds a warm glow to the stone and steel structure while the river below carries its timeless current eastward.

A combination of a road bridge and a railway bridge, the Eads Bridge is located over the Mississippi River and links the cities of St. Louis, Missouri, as well as East St. Louis, Illinois across the Mississippi River. A major part of the project is located on the St. Louis riverfront, between Laclede's Landing and the grounds of the Gateway Arch on the north side of the river.
