Description

The Negril Lighthouse is located in the Caribbean island of Negril. In terms of nautical navigation, a lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure that emitted light, either by means of lamps, lenses, or, in older times, by means of a fire, and thus served as an aid to navigation for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.

In addition to marking dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, and reefs, as well as marking safe entries to harbors, lighthouses can also play an important role in aerial navigation. Despite the fact that lighthouses have been widely used in the past, the number of lighthouses that are still operational has declined due to the expense of maintaining and replacing them with modern electronic navigation devices.
