Louis Gambert de Loche, a visionary vigneron who was involved in the establishment of the French AOC system and was a passionate defender of the Hermitage appellation, founded Cave de Tain in 1933. It is important to know the differences between Ermitage and Hermitage so you can make the right choice. It was originally written "Hermitage" to honor Gaspard de Sterimberg, who lived as a hermit during the Crusades to atone for the sins he committed during those times. On this hill, he had settled and planted vines in the area where he had planted his vineyard. A great deal of French wine was consumed by the English in the 19th century, when they were the largest consumers.
